INTERIOR DESIGN - October 2001

CUCINA BELLA: Aldo Andreoli and Poliform collaborate to bring Italian style to New York kitchens.

An 1887 industrial building in Tribeca had all the architectural makings of a luxurious residence, from expansive high-ceilinged spaces to charming columns and rounded arches. Developer/architect Aldo Andreoli saw the building’s potential, envisioning its conversion into 14 loft apartments, and consulted Italian manufacturer Poliform on key areas for each unit, including the kitchen.

Poliform worked with the architect to incorporate the material proportions and color palettes that would best showcase both Andreoli’s Italian aesthetic and the company’s own product offerings. An island anchors each Varenna brand kitchen, juxtaposing a splash of color against a neutral, U-shaped alcove of high-end appliances. Hues were paired to allow clients to choose their island lacquer with the proper backsplash color. The combination of stainless-steel and acid-etched glass cabinetry results in a clean and well-balanced cookery that is a tribute to contemporary Italian design. Credits extend to Poliform vice president Cinzia Fama-Agnolucci, senior design director Lee Markbreit, and Andreoli’s project architect Lucy Gonzalez.
